On the side of the Civil War Monument at the Hackensack Cemetery in Hackensack, there is a grave plot where men who served during the Civil War and Spanish-American War are buried.

A faded stone with the name Jacob G. Scoskie appears and this is what is engraved:

JACOB G. SCOSKIE
BTRY. O
4 ARTY.
SP. AM. WAR
MAR. 12, 18?
April 16, 1840

The one date with the question mark is unreadable, but by this headstone we know that Jacob G. Scoskie served during the Spanish-American War and was buried in the Hackensack Cemetery.
